Dr. Christopher Bernier is set to be sworn in as the new superintendent for the School District of Lee County on May 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lee County School Board approved a two-and-a-half-year contract for Bernier on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bernier\u2019s contract will automatically extend to three and a half years if the proposal to make the position of superintendent an elected position does not pass in the state legislature or at the ballot box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A consultant contract for Bernier was also approved by the school board for him to begin working immediately for the district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bernier agreed to an annual base salary of $255,000 plus benefits. According to the school board, the total estimated amount of the contract is $476,875.80, which includes a one-time payment of $20,000 for relocation and $50,000 for an executive mentor\/coach. The $50,000 is part of the superintendent\u2019s office budget and not part of Bernier\u2019s salary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bernier will begin developing a plan for his first 100 days. He will also be consulting with Dr. Ken Savage, the current superintendent, board members, and district staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bernier was the chief of staff for the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada, and previously worked for 32 years with the Orange County Public Schools in Orlando.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
