found on her property in poor condition alongside the skeletal remains of a cat, authorities said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 509px) 100vw, 509px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Animal service officers were checking on the home of Georgia Hammell as a follow-up to check conditions since around 20 cats were removed from her property in 2015, according to Lee County Domestic Animal Services (LCDAS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officers said Hammell is a \u201cknown hoarder.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On February 9, officers responded to the home on Grovewood Ave. and saw several cats in the front yard using an open window to jump into the home according to an incident report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>A responding officer found skeletal remains and fur next to the trash cans in the driveway while looking around the outside of the home alongside other bones that were not immediately recognizable, officials next day after no one answered the door Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hammell opened the door to officers Thursday and eventually let them inside claiming the cats are wild and she is not responsible for their health, an incident report shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 523px) 100vw, 523px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Officers counted at least 20 cats in and around the property suffering from various medical ailments including limping, cauliflower ear (perichondral hematoma), and obvious infections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked about the skeletal remains Hammell told officers they belonged to her cat \u201cJake\u201d who was hit by a car months ago. She said he \u201ctold her\u201d he didn\u2019t want to be disposed of and wanted to be \u201cfree\u201d due to his care-free nature when he was alive, according to LCDAS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Animal services officers told her she was in violation of proper disposal ordinances to which Hammel responded saying she is aware but said the situation was special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hammell allowed officers in her home who found the residence in disarray.
