The East Lee County High principal said in an email to parents that no students or the school were threatened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Melissa-Robery.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50858\" width=\"298\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Melissa-Robery.png 440w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Melissa-Robery-300x270.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 298px) 100vw, 298px\" \/><figcaption> East Lee County High principal <em>Melissa Robery<\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The principal didn\u2019t identify the student found with the gun but said they would be disciplined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>School officials said a student provided a tip and a teacher immediately used the school\u2019s security notification system so that administrators and school resource officers could respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>See the full email that went out to parents below:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGood afternoon Jaguar family,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This is Melissa Robery, principal of East Lee County HS.&nbsp; I send this message to inform you that one of our students was found in possession of a firearm today.&nbsp; This situation is currently being investigated by the Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>At no time were any students or our school threatened. Having the weapon on campus is a violation of law and the Student Code of Conduct.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>There is zero tolerance at East Lee County High School and the School District of Lee County for this kind of behavior so in addition to the legal consequences, the student(s) involved will be disciplined to the fullest extent.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>We are very grateful for and want to thank the student who provided the tip and the teacher who immediately used our security notification system so that our administrators and SROs could quickly respond.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>As parents, please take this opportunity to speak to your child about school safety and the importance of reporting information that may compromise their safety and the safety of others.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Working together, we can maintain an environment where students are free to focus on learning.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lee County School District confirmed the incident is being investigated by the Lee County Sheriff Office.
