We currently serve 4,641 clients at that location,” Soliz said.

The new location, open as of Sept. 27, is at 5220 Lee Blvd., Unit 8. It will be able to better handle the current need as well as growth, officials said.

“This location is ideal for our clientele because it’s centrally located and on a bus route for easy access by all Lehigh residents,” WIC Director Lori Riddle said in a prepared statement.

WIC is for the working family, Soliz said. The nutrition program is for women who are pregnant, recently pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a child under 5 years old. WIC provides, at no cost to the client, healthy foods, nutrition education, and counseling, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care, immunizations, and community services.

To be income-eligible for WIC, the individual must meet one of the following — currently receiving Medicaid benefits; currently receiving Temporary Cash Assistance; currently receiving Food Assistance (SNAP) or the individual’s total household income must be equal to or less than the annual income of $23,828 for a household size of one to an annual income of $82,621 for a household of eight.

“One area we really want to focus on is getting pregnant women on the program within their first trimester,” she said. “About 50 percent of prenatal clients enrolled in WIC entered during their first trimester. We know that good nutrition during the first trimester is so important.”

The hours at the new location are from 7:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. To receive WIC services, an appointment is necessary by calling 239-334-2000.

For more information, visit http://lee.floridahealth.gov/programs-and-services/index.html.

The Women, Infant, and Children office in Lehigh Acres has relocated to a new location to accommodate the caseload growth. Florida Department of Health in Lee County spokesperson Tammy Soliz…

[99
759
