A. Milne, often played with his son, Christopher Robin, at the bridge in the 1920s. It became a regular setting for the adventures of Pooh and his friends in the series that launched in 1926.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOffering it at auction is probably the biggest opportunity globally for people to reach out and be able to buy it and put it in a museum,\u201d said James Rylands of Summer Place Auctions, which has previously auctioned items including 20 tons of the Berlin Wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rylands said the bridge is \u201cone of the most important iconic literary objects there is\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen you actually talk about history and add in the emotion and the happiness that \u2018Winnie the Pooh\u2019 has brought to generations as children and adults over the years, it is very difficult to price it,\u201d Rylands said. \u201cIf it fetches a quarter of a million pounds, then I won\u2019t be surprised.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bridge was built around 1907 and was originally named Posingford Bridge. The landmark was renamed Poohsticks Bridge in 1997 by the late author\u2019s son, whose toy animals were the basis of the Pooh series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was taken down in 1999 after being worn out by visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rylands said there\u2019s been interest from around the world, but hoped that the bridge stays local.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI do hope it stays in Sussex because it obviously has great relevance to the locality,\u201d he said. \u201cBut if it does end up in the United States or indeed Japan, I have no doubt it will be a little bit loved over there as well.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The adventures of the&nbsp;honey-loving bear&nbsp;\u201cWinnie the Pooh\u201d have captivated children&nbsp;\u2014 and their parents \u2014for almost 100 years.
