Lee County schools prepare to enforce mask mandates on campuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A mask mandate that infuriated parents is set to go into effect at schools within The School District of Lee County Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parents have no choice, Lee County schools will demand every student wear a mask on the bus and in class. Some parents say their kids will defy the order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI would honestly say to people that really are not going to comply, for tomorrow at least, then just, you know, keep your child at home,\u201d board member Gwyn Gittens said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Gittens told us since Savage imposed the mask mandate; parents have continuously called, vowing their kids won\u2019t wear a mask. She worries about the staff members who must enforce the rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe need administrators and teachers, not police. They\u2019re not police,\u201d Gittens said. \u201cWe have to be very, very, very careful about putting anything more on people\u2019s plates.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Screaming at teachers will not be tolerated. The only available way to get out of wearing a mask at this time is for a doctor to write a note the District can review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The mandate goes into effect Wednesday, September 1st. However, it’s been made clear that some students and staff will simply refuse to wear masks on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So what happens in those cases?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Here’s what the district has to say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n “We’re going to follow the same process that we used last year and that type of de-escalation as well as providing options for families when it does not happen. Potentially based on the conduct used there could be disciplinary consequences depending on how that situation plays out,” said Lee County School District Interim Superintendent, Dr. Kenneth Savage.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n So what happens next?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Well, the school district says it will be meeting with school principals tomorrow to discuss this mandate rollout ahead of Wednesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Lee County schools prepare to enforce mask mandates on campuses.
