Hall of Fame college football coach Bobby Bowden\u2019s son said his father is suffering from pancreatic cancer. This comes after the family recently announced his condition is terminal, ESPN reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bobby Bowden, who coached Florida State for 34 seasons before retiring in 2009, released a statement Wednesday through the school saying he had a terminal medical condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always tried to serve God\u2019s purpose for my life, on and off the field, and I am prepared for what is to come,\u201d Bowden said in a statement. \u201cMy wife Ann and our family have been life\u2019s greatest blessing. I am at peace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to ESPN, Bowden, 91, is the second-winningest coach in Division I history with 357 victories. His teams won national championships in 1993 and 1999.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Current Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell opened up Thursday\u2019s session at ACC media days by paying tribute to Bowden, ESPN reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bowden also dealt with a bout of COVID-19 in October, which came a few days after he returned to his Tallahassee home after a long hospital stay for an infection in his leg, according to ESPN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He served as West Virginia coach from 1970 to 1975 before taking the Florida State job in 1976. ESPN reported that he built the Seminoles into a national power, winning 12 ACC championships and national titles in 1993 and 1999.
