{"id":48755,"date":"2021-05-13T17:05:37","date_gmt":"2021-05-13T21:05:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=48755"},"modified":"2021-05-13T17:05:51","modified_gmt":"2021-05-13T21:05:51","slug":"mcdonalds-boosting-starting-pay-to-11-17-an-hour-at-company-owned-restaurants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2021\/05\/mcdonalds-boosting-starting-pay-to-11-17-an-hour-at-company-owned-restaurants\/","title":{"rendered":"McDonald&#8217;s boosting starting pay to $11-$17 an hour at company-owned restaurants"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The fast-food chain&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.mcdonalds.com\/corpmcd\/en-us\/our-stories\/article\/.mcopco-wage-raise.html?cid=a13d14f0-9467-4476-ad29-de31ef4e7907\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced Thursday<\/a>&nbsp;it is boosting entry-level pay to a range of $11 to $17 an hour based on restaurant location, while shift managers will earn $15 to $20 an hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/mcdonalds.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48756\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/mcdonalds.jpg 400w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/mcdonalds-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>McDonald\u2019s said it expects its average hourly wage to reach $15 by 2024, with some restaurants hitting that mark this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur first value is taking care of our people, and today we are rewarding our hardworking employees in McDonald-owned restaurants for serving our communities,\u201d McDonald\u2019s USA President Joe Erlinger said in a news release. \u201cThese actions further our commitment to offering one of the leading pay and benefits packages in the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McDonald\u2019s said the pay hikes reflect its \u201ccommitment to evaluating competitive wage data and the evolving legislation and regulatory environment to determine the appropriate wage ranges on a market-by-market level.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The raises, which have already begun and will continue to be rolled out over several months, will impact 36,500 employees, the company said. McDonald\u2019s also said it is looking to hire 10,000 new employees at company-owned restaurants over the next three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement comes as restaurants across the country say they\u2019re struggling to find workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The changes to McDonald\u2019s pay structure, however, do not apply to its franchisees, who independently operate about 95% of its 14,000 restaurants in the United States,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/05\/13\/business\/mcdonalds-wage-increase.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McDonald\u2019s is not the only fast-food chain to announce pay raises this week.
