{"id":48327,"date":"2021-04-15T19:13:12","date_gmt":"2021-04-15T23:13:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=48327"},"modified":"2021-04-15T19:13:44","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T23:13:44","slug":"ncaa-warns-it-will-pull-all-florida-championships-if-transgender-sports-bill-is-approved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2021\/04\/ncaa-warns-it-will-pull-all-florida-championships-if-transgender-sports-bill-is-approved\/","title":{"rendered":"NCAA warns it will pull all Florida championships if transgender sports bill is approved"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The NCAA threatened to pull the plug on Florida championship games if lawmakers approve bills to ban transgender girls from playing girls\u2019 sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/NcAA-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48256\" width=\"341\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/NcAA-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/NcAA-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/NcAA-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/NcAA-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/NcAA.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 341px) 100vw, 341px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Republicans in the Florida House have already approved it, but Senate Republicans could be having second thoughts after the NCAA warning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s because the Senate has paused its vote right after the NCAA warning. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill singles out transgender girls and makes no mention of transgender boys, but it has both sides fired up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Republicans want to ban girls like her from playing on girls\u2019 teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Republican Spencer Roach said what he doesn\u2019t want to see happen is the system get gamed by biological males who compete against women and earn scholarship out of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/roach.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-47896\" width=\"374\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/roach.png 800w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/roach-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/roach-768x384.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 374px) 100vw, 374px\" \/><figcaption>Republican Spencer Roach<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Roach co-sponsored the bill but couldn\u2019t cite any examples of this happening in Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat we are saying is that you have to play sports that correspond with your biological birth sex,\u201d Roach said.&nbsp;\u201cThat\u2019s not anti-trans, it\u2019s pro-girl.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Democrat Anna Eskamani said the democratic caucus filed 18 amendments against the bill to try and make it less harsh, but she said unfortunately every amendment failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This includes an amendment to eliminate genital inspections to prove your sex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All eyes remain on the Senate to see if they will pass the bill.
