Haas who wants your vote for Lee County’s District 5 seat is now apologizing for using a racial slur in an email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the email, which later ended up being forwarded to current Lee County Commissioners, Haas said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Now I\u2019m seeing the results of the new census. 60 percent Latin. 20 percent black. 20 percent white. The Cubans are colonizing Lehigh. Lehigh is 40 percent grown. Almost 110 thousand residents now. Funny thing. It won\u2019t be a n***** quarters after all,” \u201cThat\u2019s the real plan. I was told. Sonny. We have to put the n****** somewhere. It\u2019s that simple that\u2019s franks plan.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later Haas said, “Should I have slung the ‘n’ word out even though they said it? Does it make it right that I said it? Obviously, I apologize to the African American people for that.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response to what Haas wrote in the email, Haas said, “This wasn’t no ploy for me to get publicity. It is what it is.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Current County Commissioner Frank Mann who holds the District 5 seat, released the following statement by email to us:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am astounded by what I read in the e-mail from Mr. Haas. The \u201cN\u201d word hasn\u2019t been heard out of a politician\u2019s mouth, even in the South, in over 40 years. Nor should it be.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
