On Sunday, May 17, 2020, Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office deputies responded to a residence on 23rd Street Southwest in Lehigh Acres in reference to a medical assistance call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 23-month-old female with life-threatening injuries.  The child was immediately taken to Golisano Children\u2019s Hospital and subsequently med-flighted to Johns Hopkins All Children\u2019s Hospital in St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the nature of the incident, detectives with the Special Victim\u2019s Unit responded and assumed the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am outraged and saddened to report that another young child is fighting for their life as a result of physical abuse,\u201d stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno. \u201cAs always, our detectives will work around the clock with the State Attorney\u2019s Office to bring these despicable criminals to justice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Detectives learned that the child\u2019s condition was not consistent with accidental injuries. As a result, detectives began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation revealed that while in the care of Yannier Velazquez-Orjeda, the victim sustained several severe injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this time, the child is reported to be in critical condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
