{"id":46469,"date":"2020-04-20T15:23:01","date_gmt":"2020-04-20T19:23:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=46469"},"modified":"2020-04-20T15:23:12","modified_gmt":"2020-04-20T19:23:12","slug":"fhsaa-announces-cancellation-of-all-affiliated-high-school-spring-sports-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2020\/04\/fhsaa-announces-cancellation-of-all-affiliated-high-school-spring-sports-events\/","title":{"rendered":"FHSAA announces cancellation of all affiliated high school spring sports events"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Following Governor Ron DeSantis\u2019 announcement mandating schools continue distance learning for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, it is with heavy hearts that the FHSAA has decided to cancel all FHSAA affiliated events, inclusive of the state series and all championship events, for spring sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/FHSAA-logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46470\" width=\"306\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/FHSAA-logo.jpg 415w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/FHSAA-logo-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The organization said in a statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The safety of our student-athletes, coaches, officials, and fans is our top priority. With the evolving threat of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we must ensure that we do not contribute to the spread of this illness. We are deeply saddened for our student-athletes who have seen their seasons and\/or high school careers end so abruptly. Our Association knows the impact and role high school athletics play in the lives of so many and will continue to work towards the betterment of high school sports. We know this is a trying time, but the health and safety of all is of utmost importance to this Association.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Under the guidance of the Florida Department of Education regarding grade-level retention, and upon review of the Florida Statutes and FHSAA Bylaws, no additional eligibility will be granted for spring sport athletes. For clarification regarding&nbsp;<\/em><em>student-athlete eligibility,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fhsaa.org\/sites\/default\/files\/orig_uploads\/WeeklyUpdate\/eligibility_details_re_spring_cancellation.pdf\">click here<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>To all our senior student-athletes, we thank you for dedicating your time and efforts to your school, your coaches, and your teammates. Cherish the memories you have made and embrace all that the future holds for you.
