When flushed, these\nproducts clog sewer pipes and pump stations, increase utility maintenance,\ncreate environmental concerns and cause extra work throughout the wastewater\nsystem.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to a spike in demand spurred by the\ncoronavirus pandemic,&nbsp;Wastewater Managers worry that with toilet paper\nflying off the shelves in grocery stores and retail outlets, consumers are\npurchasing large quantities of wipes, paper towels, facial tissues, and\nnapkins. If these items are used as substitutes for toilet paper, they should\nnever be flushed because&nbsp;they are not biodegradable. They wreak havoc on\nour system and a homeowner\u2019s very own plumbing\u2026Please don\u2019t flush those down\nthe toilet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sanitary sewer systems are designed to\naccommodate&nbsp;toilet paper, which is made to disintegrate quickly in water.\nIt is proven that wipes, diapers and other materials don\u2019t break down as\nreadily and tend to clog pipes. That could mean sewer backups into homes and\nclogs may form down the line impacting others. While disposable wipes are a\nconvenient and easy-to-use&nbsp;product that serves a variety of&nbsp;helpful\npurposes, many Americans may be using them incorrectly. Whether it\u2019s flushing\nnon-flushable wipes or using antibacterial products to excess,&nbsp;misusing\ndisposable wipes can create costly problems.
