{"id":46011,"date":"2020-02-13T13:56:22","date_gmt":"2020-02-13T18:56:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=46011"},"modified":"2020-02-13T13:57:50","modified_gmt":"2020-02-13T18:57:50","slug":"fire-district-to-relaunch-cadet-fire-program-could-it-endanger-the-taxpayers-and-citizens-of-lehigh-acres","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2020\/02\/fire-district-to-relaunch-cadet-fire-program-could-it-endanger-the-taxpayers-and-citizens-of-lehigh-acres\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire district to relaunch cadet fire program could it endanger the taxpayers and citizens of Lehigh Acres???"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Lehigh Acres Fire and Rescue District will not go on the record to say one way or the other if these cadets will ever be used at an active fire or emergency situation. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"299\" height=\"168\" src=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/images.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46012\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District is\nrelaunching a Cadet Program that will start on March 4th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program&#8217;s goal is to teach participants about their\nprofession and provide access to mentors and volunteer opportunities. The\ninitial program is limited to a class of 15 cadets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Throughout the program, cadets will meet every week on\na Wednesday, for about 2-3 hours. Day one will begin with a physical training\nsession and then to a fire fighter orientation. We will go over things\nincluding CPR, first responders. What you do on a medical scene, and all of the\nequipment on an ambulance such as Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support\nequipment,&#8221; Battalion Chief Lance Delgado said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When weather permits, cadet instructors will take the\nclassroom outside for education on fire engines, ladder trucks, and how to use\na fire hose<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Cadets will receive training and learn everything\nabout the equipment on the fire truck,&#8221; Delgado said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program is also open to youth who may not be interested\nin firefighting as a career. Each participant will build on various skill sets\nthroughout their tenure in the program, building a solid foundation for a\nsuccessful future in any field. Pride, commitment, courage, leadership, teamwork,\nintegrity, self-discipline are applicable and useful life skills to develop\ntowards any profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Delgado, the overall goal of the cadet program\nis to tap into the talent and potential of youth in Lehigh Acres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Lehigh has a lot of great young people. This is good\nway to tap into our community. We want people to work and stay in our\ncommunity.
