<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nThe world was shocked January 26,\n2020 by the sudden death of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven others.\nA helicopter that spiraled through a California sky and crashed took the life\nof one of the world’s greatest basketball players. During his career, Bryant\nhad played 20 years for the Los Angeles Lakers leading them to five NBA\nchampionships and an amazing 33,643 points. This is currently the\nfourth highest NBA scoring record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some of us remember exactly where we\nwere when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. We remember where we\nheard John Lennon had been murdered or where we were when Martin Luther King\nJr. was murdered or when the Space Shuttle Challenger flight exploded in space.\nFor years now we will remember where we were and what we were doing the day\nKobe was killed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are shocked that someone so young,\nfamous, and so loved and idolized by so many could be snuffed out of this life\nso suddenly at the age of 41. Kobe had a worldwide fan base. He was worth\nhundreds of millions of dollars. He was loved and adored. He and his\ndaughter were on their way to a basketball game. He was involved in the lives\nof his children and family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Death often shocks us. We are not\nshocked when someone is terminal for a long time. We are not shocked when an\nelderly person dies. We are sad but not shocked. We are shocked when\nthe young, the rich and the famous are suddenly taken from us with no warning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A couple of years ago we were\nsaddened by the loss of my wife’s mother. She had been sick a long time but we\nwere not shocked by her death. One morning in 2015 we received a phone call\nthat my wife’s father had suddenly died with heart failure while driving his\ncar. My wife fell to the floor in pain, tears and heart wrenching distress. We\nwere shocked beyond belief that her active, hardworking, loving father who\nseemed to always keep the world turning had suddenly died. Death may always\nsadden us but may not always shock us. The deaths that shock us leave us\nreeling, feeling like the floor has been pulled from underneath us and that we\nwill never stop falling and hurting from the pain of someone’s sudden\ndeath. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Any of us can and may die suddenly.\nHow can we prepare? We can’t. However, we can make every day count now. Love\npeople. Talk to people. Hug people. Say things to people that you won’t regret\nor that you will be glad you said. Live in such a way with people so\nthat when sudden death occurs you or they are not left devastated but can at\nleast feel relieved that you treated each other the right way.
