In Washington\u2019s 1796 address, Washington warned of what he called that lack of \u201cnational union.\u201d Even during Washington\u2019s time, there was political squabbling within his own presidential cabinet. These individuals disagreed so much that they started their own political parties. Washington often found himself in a position needing to act as a mediator between the two main political parties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/overview-George-Washington.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45755\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/overview-George-Washington.jpg 800w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/overview-George-Washington-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/overview-George-Washington-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When Washington gave his farewell address, he specifically\nmentioned his fear of what political parties would do to the United States of\nAmerica and that was to pull America apart to the point of no longer being the\nRepublic our founding fathers established. Specifically, Washington believed\nthat national unity would be destroyed by political parties and that the regions\nor States would be better served as a whole without political party factions.\nFrom Washington\u2019s own experience of dealing with his cabinet members, he saw\nfirst-hand how loyalty to political parties often brought deep division and\nunnecessary tensions between Americans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, we not only have many political parties in the United\nStates, we also have deep division as to what America should look like. We have\na growing American and foreign populace where beliefs in political ideologies\nand political party affiliation outweigh and are complete opposite of the\nideologies of what George Washington warned us against. Infighting amongst\nAmericans regarding political factions appears to be at an all-time high. The\n&#8220;glue&#8221; of our nation&#8211;patriotism and respect and allegiance to the\nConstitution&#8211;has been worn away by years of Americans allegiances to one\nparticular political party against another while moving away from the\nConstitution (Even President G.W. Bush referred to the Constitution as &#8220;a\nrag&#8221;). Rather than carefully examining political candidates and their\npolitical beliefs, many Americans will simply vote for a political candidate\nbecause they are representative of one political party or another and this has\ngreatly contributed to the destruction of our nation as a union&#8211;just as\nWashington predicted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Paul Waldmiller Did you know that in our first American President\u2019s farewell address, George Washington warned to be aware of the allegiance to political parties over the nation?
