{"id":45535,"date":"2019-12-18T09:59:26","date_gmt":"2019-12-18T14:59:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=45535"},"modified":"2019-12-18T09:59:35","modified_gmt":"2019-12-18T14:59:35","slug":"do-the-right-thing-monthly-honorees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2019\/12\/do-the-right-thing-monthly-honorees\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cDo The Right Thing\u201d &#8211; Monthly Honorees"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Leonardo Monzon of Lehigh Acres is a fifth grade student at\nHarns Marsh Elementary\nSchool.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Harns\nMarsh&nbsp;Elementary School, school resource officer, Deputy Christine Zumbrum\nwrote \u201cthe staff at Harns Marsh Elementary School expressed that Leo Monzon\nwould be an excellent student to nominate for the \u201cDo The Right Thing\u201d\nprogram.&nbsp; Staff member Mrs. Woosley praised Leo for his willingness to\nhelp kindergarten students the first couple of weeks ensuring they boarded the\ncorrect bus during parent pick up.&nbsp; Leo\u2019s teacher, Ms. Stafford described\nLeo as a wonderful student as he eagerly completes his work so he can help\nother students whom are struggling.&nbsp; Ms. Stafford also described Leo as a\ngreat leader in his small group when it is time for student led centers.&nbsp;\nMs. Stafford\u2019s class discussed the quote \u201cbe a LEADER, not a BOSS\u201d and she said\nLeo exemplifies the quote perfectly!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nathan Lorenzo Lee of Lehigh Acres is a second grade student\nat&nbsp; Harns Marsh Elementary\nSchool.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Harns\nMarsh&nbsp;Elementary School, school resource officer, Deputy Christine Zumbrum\nwrote that \u201cseveral of the staff of Harns Marsh Elementary School felt that\nNathan Lee deserved to be nominated for the Do The Right Thing Program.\nNathan\u2019s teacher, Mrs. Hearn, expressed that Nathan was deserving of an award,\nas he is \u2018an amazing helper in her classroom.\u2019&nbsp; When I spoke with Nathan,\nhe said when he finishes his work, like math, even though it is not his\nfavorite subject, he still likes to help other students who may be having a\ndifficult time.&nbsp; Several staff members who assist during parent pick up\ntime advised that Nathan also deserved a nomination as he shows genuine concern\nto help younger students by being alert and listening for their names to be\ncalled to ensure they get to the correct location.&nbsp; Even at his young age,\nNathan has proven himself to be responsible, helpful, and a role model to other\nstudents.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alberth Nicholas-Morales of Lehigh Acres is a fourth grade\nstudent at&nbsp; Sunshine Elementary\nSchool.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Sunshine&nbsp;Elementary\nSchool, fourth grade teacher Ronda Martin wrote \u201cI teach a small group of\nmonolingual students during an intervention block. Alberth, who does speak and\nread limited English, goes above and beyond to help me and his classmates. He\noften translates simple sentences and questions to the students on my behalf.\nHe is always willing to step in whenever necessary to ensure others succeed. He\nis invaluable to the class.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maria Vazquez of Lehigh Acres is a third grade student at\nSunshine&nbsp; Elementary School.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Sunshine&nbsp;Elementary\nSchool, third grade teacher Theresa Thomas wrote, \u201cMaria is a compassionate and\ncaring student. She displays excellent self-control at all times. Her kindness\ntowards her peers is amazing. When her clasmates choose to be sneaky or\ncunning, Maria chooses to have integrity. She has a beautiful heart and I feel\nthat she is loyal and forthright. I am sure her parents are quite proud of her\nhigh morals and standards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Josiah Crespo of Lehigh Acres is a second grade student at\nSunshine Elementary\nSchool.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Sunshine&nbsp;Elementary\nSchool, second grade teacher Leah Jorgensen wrote \u201cJosiah Came up to me during breakfast\ntime to ask a question. He said \u2018my mom made me a peanut butter sandwich\nbecause they are my favorite. I would really like to eat it for breakfast. Does\nanyone in class have an allergy?\u2019 Josiah recently joined our class so he did\nnot know. He showed responsibility in asking before he ate his peanut butter\nsandwich.\u201d He actions reflected a deep concern for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mia Rogue of Lehigh Acres is a third grade student at\nTortuga Preserve Elementary\nSchool.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Tortuga\nPreserve Elementary School,&nbsp; third grade teacher Amy Putnam wrote&nbsp;\u201cin\nour class we have a student that is learning the English language. Mia took it\nupon herself to help our friend read. Mia, would read to him, help him sound\nout words, and ask him questions. Mia has a kind heart and it showed during her\nengagement with our friend.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following two students will be honored\ntogether:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Jaden\nDavis resides in Lehigh Acres. Yaneli Francisco-Lopez resides in Tice. Both are\nfifth grade student at Manatee Elementary\nSchool.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Manatee\nElementary School, fifth grade teacher Natalie Baker wrote about two separate\nacts that these two students committed that demonstrated kindness and concern\ntowards their fellow students. She witnessed that \u201cas Jayden was in line\nattempting to buy a Smencil writing instrument, a kindergarten student, in\nfront of him, was also attempting to buy one \u2013 but they only had four cents.\nJayden became aware of this dilemma and piped up and offered to buy one for her\nwith his extra dollar.\u201d How thoughtful was that! Teacher Natalie Baker wrote\nthat \u201cYaneli knew that a student\u2019s birthday was coming up and the student was\nnot going to be able to bring in a treat to share. Yaneli surprised the class\nand the birthday student with donuts for the class!\u201d How thoughtful was that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cheyanne Barrett of Lehigh Acres is a seventh grade student\nat Varsity Lakes Middle\nSchool.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Treeline\nElementary School, music teacher Nadia Arnsworth wrote \u201cI have known Cheyanne\nBarrett since she was in kindergarten. I had the privilege of teaching her\nmusic throughout her elementary school years. I have seen her grow into a\nbeautiful, kind, and thoughtful young woman. She is an eloquent speaker and a\ndelight with which to debate. I have gotten to see Cheyanne make it all the way\nthrough a crowning process for her Stars group at her church. This is an\nimpressive achievement involving Bible research, knowledge and memorization. As\npart of the crowning event she had to create a film of her accomplishments and\nexplain in the video why she felt it was so important to have self-confidence.\nI was impressed by her willingness to be brave and express herself in a video\nthat a room full of adults and other peers would be watching. I have on many\noccasions seen her leadership qualities and most recently had the wonderful\ngood fortune&nbsp; hear a sermon that she delivered in a competition of youth\nat her church. She spoke about facing one\u2019s fears through prayer and used an\nexample of how she to help calm down a teacher in a scary situation on campus,\nwhen she was in kindergarten, using prayer and faith. Two years ago when a\nbeloved police officer was killed in the line of duty, Cheyanne went down to\nthe police station to volunteer to help tie and pin thousands of ribbons for\nthe pending funeral. She knows the importance of helping out wherever needed. I\nhope that she becomes a role model for my six year old daughter in the future.\nI know Cheyanne is very deserving of this Award.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gunner Steel Bowser of Lehigh Acres, is a sophomore at\nLehigh Senior High\nSchool.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Lehigh\nSenior High School, school resource officer, Deputy Luis Carrillo wrote \u201cGunner\nSteel Bowser is a student, who is constantly striving to do the right thing.\nWhile on his way to school, Bowser saw what appeared to be a stray cat stuck in\na gutter. Bowser rescued the kitten and brought it to school administration in\nan effort to find the cat a home. The kitten found a home on that same day as\nit was adopted by a member of the school staff. The very next day, Bowser found\na cellphone on the floor and ensured it was returned to school staff. The owner\nof the phone was reunited with the phone and extremely appreciative Bowser is\nalways smiling and shows a positive attitude throughout his day at school.\u201d\nWhat an amazing young man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Katiuska Perez of Lehigh Acres is a senior at Riverdale High\nSchool.&nbsp;Riverdale High School, school resource officer, Deputy Jevon\nMatthews wrote \u201cKatiuska came to me one morning to express concern for a friend\nand their safety. After speaking with Katiuska the deputy made contact with the\nfriend and was able to ensure that they were not in danger. Katiuska exercised\ngood judgment and decision making in notifying an adult about her concern and\ndid so in a timely manner.
