Did you know that according to a study that was\npublished by the Journal of Basic and Applied Psychology, Americans lie on\naverage of one-hundred times per day? It seems American culture has a pervasive\nproblem with telling truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this week\u2019s column, I am sharing the seemingly\nuncontrollable issue of lying. I recently attended a local town hall meeting\nwhere I confronted a Florida State Assemblyman (who promised me some months\npreviously to facilitate phone calls to help me gain justice). At the end of\nhis explanation for not doing what he stated he would do, I learned that he had\nlied by not performing any of the acts he had promised me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My question to not only my fellow Floridan\u2019s but all\nAmericans is this: Why do we continue to vote for politicians who end up\nbetraying us\/breaking their campaign promises? Why is there no immediate\nconsequence or accountability for lying politicians? Please make note that I am\nnot parsing or choosing to pick on any specific political party here. Personally,\nI don\u2019t see one political party better at truth-telling than any other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would hope that all good Americans can plainly see that\nthe problem of lying politicians is not the root issue here, that lying is\nendemic in our local, state and federal government as well as in our\ncourts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are several suggestions to bring our once great nation,\nincluding its politicians, back to telling the truth:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1)    When you feel pressured to lie,\nchoose to tell the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2)    If you feel you need to lie to get\nwhere you want to be in life, remain silent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3)    Remind yourself of the possible\nnegative consequences for being caught in a telling a lie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you practice these attributes, you will soon have a\nstrong conviction to hold liars like politicians to account.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
