Now, Walmart is taking a step of its own.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Friday, the retailer announced it will stop selling e-cigarettes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, Walmart said: &#8220;Given the growing federal, state and local regulatory complexity and uncertainty regarding e-cigarettes, we plan to discontinue the sale of electronic nicotine delivery products at all Walmart and Sam&#8217;s Club US locations. We will complete our exit after selling through current inventory.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walmart has already&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsy.com\/stories\/walmart-raises-minimum-age-to-buy-tobacco-products-to-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">raised the minimum age<\/a>&nbsp;to buy tobacco in its stores to 21 after the FDA called it out in a letter for selling tobacco to minors. The FDA sent similar letters to other retailers, including Walgreens, which has also raised the age to buy tobacco to 21.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walmart&#8217;s announcement comes amid&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tobacco\/basic_information\/e-cigarettes\/severe-lung-disease.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CDC<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsy.com\/stories\/fda-opens-criminal-investigation-into-vape-related-illnesses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FDA<\/a>&nbsp;investigations into an outbreak of lung illnesses linked to e-cigarettes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E-cigarettes have&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsy.com\/stories\/teen-vaping-drastically-increased-over-the-past-two-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">become extremely popular<\/a>&nbsp;among teenagers and young adults, even though&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tobacco\/basic_information\/e-cigarettes\/Quick-Facts-on-the-Risks-of-E-cigarettes-for-Kids-Teens-and-Young-Adults.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the CDC says<\/a>&nbsp;tobacco and e-cigarettes are unsafe for young people. It also says vaping nicotine &#8220;can harm adolescent brain development.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of Friday,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/09\/19\/missouri-man-dies-from-vaping-illness-bringing-us-death-toll-to-eight.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eight people in the U.S.<\/a>&nbsp;had died from vaping-related lung illnesses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>States across the U.S&nbsp;and even entire&nbsp;countries&nbsp;have taken steps to curb e-cigarette use.
