{"id":44147,"date":"2019-08-12T10:44:26","date_gmt":"2019-08-12T14:44:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=44147"},"modified":"2019-08-12T15:54:24","modified_gmt":"2019-08-12T19:54:24","slug":"school-bus-crash-shuts-down-road-with-second-graded-injured","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2019\/08\/school-bus-crash-shuts-down-road-with-second-graded-injured\/","title":{"rendered":"School bus crash shuts down road with second graded injured"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/buscrashgraphic.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/buscrashgraphic.jpg 640w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/buscrashgraphic-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Update:<\/strong><\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An\n8-year-old old girl second graded at Gateway Elementary was transported to the\nhospital as a precaution Monday after her school bus was involved in a traffic\ncrash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No\nmajor injuries were reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ncrash happened just before 8 a.m. on the first day back to school for Lee\nCounty students when a pickup truck driven by 18-year-old David McChesney\nHughes, of Lehigh Acres, ran a stop sign at the intersection on Grant Boulevard\nand Eisenhower Boulevard, causing the front of his vehicle to collide with the\nleft side of the bus, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nschool bus came to a stop sideways in the street, with the front end of the bus\non a local resident&#8217;s property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bus\nwas on its way to Gateway Elementary school and, at the time of the incident,\nhad five students on board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One\nstudent was transported Health Park Hospital for precautionary reasons only and\nat the parent\u2019s request, according to School District of Lee County\nspokesperson, Rob Spicker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A school bus crash in Lehigh Acres has down Grant Boulevard and Eisenhower Boulevard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All lanes on Grant Boulevard near Eisenhower Boulevard are\nblocked, and LCSO said the crash should be cleared in an hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second-grader was taken to hospital with minor injuries.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FHP said neither of the drivers was injured.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to FHP bus\u2019s back end is extremely damaged and the\ntruck\u2019s front end is totaled. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Update: An 8-year-old old girl second graded at Gateway Elementary was transported to the hospital as a precaution Monday after her school bus was involved in a traffic crash.
