Gov. Ron DeSantis on\nFriday appointed former Blue\nAngel<\/a> Raymond Sandelli to a vacancy on the Lee County Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe is not somebody who sought out the position,\u201d DeSantis said. \u201cBut he is very capable and community-minded.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sandelli, a real estate broker, now serves as managing\npartner at CRE\nConsultants<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am grateful to Governor DeSantis for asking me to serve\non the board of the Lee County Commission,\u201d Sandelli said. \u201cI look forward\nto serving the constituents of Lee County alongside my fellow commissioners, a\nresponsibility I do not take lightly. This is a great honor and I thank\nGovernor DeSantis for his leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sandelli started his real estate career in Washington state,\nthen moved to Florida in 2000 to manage another company\u2019s Tampa office and later\noversaw the entire Florida region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting in 2007, Sandelli assumed statewide oversight for\nlender and servicer representation for the reposition of all property types\nthrough his old company\u2019s \u2018recovery and restructuring\u2019 program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before his work with that national firm, he served as vice president of leasing for The Ranier Fund, a Seattle commercial real estate development, and management firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat I bring to the table is more than 40 years of\nexperience in the business world,\u201d Sandelli told Florida Politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sandelli also served eight years as a naval officer and\naviator \u2014 something DeSantis, a Navy veteran himself, considered a plus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He will be sworn into office on Tuesday but has not decided\nif he will run yet for re-election next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m just observing and learning, right now,\u201d he said. \u201cBut\nif I am the right person for the commission and for the district, if those\nfolks feel like I\u2019m the right guy, then I\u2019m open to it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He fills a seat left\nopen by the death<\/a> of Lee County Commissioner Larry Kiker in\nApril.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move to appoint Sandelli came as somewhat a surprise.\nSpeculation occurred in the press around candidates like former\nprosecutor Matt\nRoepstorff<\/a> and Lee Health wellness director Christin\nCollins<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kiker\u2019s widow, Paula Kiker, also applied\nfor the appointment<\/a>. And a number of other high-profile candidates had\nthrown their hats in the ring as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right now, Paula Kiker and Democrat Todd Truax have\nfiled for the Lee County Commission District 3 seat, which is up next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis also surprised people with the location of the\nappointment. He announced Sandelli at the end of a press conference in\nEnglewood, outside of Lee County, where the primary focus was a new red tide\ntask force.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
