But not tested for Hepatitis C, MIRSA or any STD. Why?

Inmates share toilets, showers and some have to sleep on the floors. Some inmate workers handle food and clothing. Remember Hepatitis C and MIRSA is 100% contagious.

One former inmate stated that he has Hepatitis C and the Core allowed him to become an inmate worker and hand out food trays during feeding times in dorms 9 and 10 for months.

How about the Lee County Sherriff employees within the jail system? The Doctors and the Nurse PA’s and Nurses are all contract employees do not work for the jail; they work for a third party.

While the state was already mandated by the court to treat inmates in prisons (not county jails) with Hepatitis C, the ruling by U.S. District Judge Mark Walker expanded the number of inmates who will receive care because it includes those who are at the early stages of the disease.

The order will affect roughly 20,000 to 40,000 prisoners,
according to the Florida Justice Institute, which sued the state in 2017 after
inmates said they had been denied proper hepatitis C treatment.

“As a result of this order, thousands of people will be treated for hepatitis C and will no longer be at risk for cancer, liver disease, and premature death,” said Dante P.
