It has taken place for the past two years as a way to\nbring people together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next tournament will be held Saturday, July 27, at 1 p.m. The double-elimination tournament has a $10 entry fee. The fee gets thrown in a pot for first and second place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s always open to the public. There is a blind draw for partners,&#8221; Lightner said. &#8220;We average about 12 to 14 (players) a month the last three months. Before that, we had eight to 10. We had a big one on the Fourth of July. We had 20 players.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those interested in playing in the tournament can show up\nthe day of the event and seek out Lightner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m usually there at 9 in the morning. They can start\npracticing at 11:30 if they want,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sons also hold a bigger tournament on the holidays,\ncomplete with food and entertainment. The next big tournament will take place\nthe weekend of Labor Day with a big Clam Bake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We raise the entry fee to $15 and put so much money\ninto the charities,&#8221; Lightner said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The American Legion is at 1124 Ashlar Ave. behind the Burger\nKing on Homestead Road.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Sons of the American Legion Post 323 will hold its monthly horseshoe tournament this weekend, again for camaraderie and a cause.
