It is about a family of mice. The parents\u2019 names are Bud and Blossom. They have four daughters named Iris, Rose, Violet, and Daisy. They lived in a hole at the bottom of a big tree. When winter came, they moved into the house next door and found a piano to be the perfect place to live. When the people in the house went to bed, the piano became magical. Payne is pleased to share one of her most exciting projects\nsince retirement: the publication of her first children\u2019s book,&nbsp;\u201cThe Magic\nPiano.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For over 20 years, Payne was a familiar face at Forestville\nElementary School, where she taught kindergarten and worked as a substitute\nteacher. In 1992, Payne and her husband retired to Naples, Florida. After his\npassing in 2001, she moved to Lehigh Acres to be closer to family. Despite the\ndistance, Payne has remained close to her Forestville friends, one of whom\nencouraged her to pursue her book idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn the night of June 30, 2015, I was given a dream,\u201d&nbsp;Payne\nexplained of her inspiration.&nbsp;\u201cIt had to be given by the Lord because I\nhave weird dreams! It was a complete story, and the characters even had names.\nI wrote it down as soon as I woke up in the morning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Payne said the story follows a family of mice and their\nlives in a big tree over the course of four seasons. When winter arrives, the\nfamily packs their bags and moves inside a nearby house, which has a piano. The\nmice family decide that the piano would make a cozy winter home; when the human\nfamily goes to bed, the mice become active, running along the strings of the\npiano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When spring comes, the mice family returns to their tree,\nand in the last scene of the book, the human family is standing next to their\npiano.&nbsp;\u201cThey don\u2019t understand why the piano isn\u2019t magical anymore,\u201d Payne\nsaid.&nbsp;\u201cBut we know!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortly after her dream, Payne reached out to her\nForestville friend, Mary Jo Fleming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI told her all about it,\u201d&nbsp;said Payne.&nbsp;\u201cMary Jo\ntold me that I better do something about it! My daughter-in-law had seen an ad\nfor Christian Faith Publishing out of Meadville, Pennsylvania. She contacted\nthem, and they sent the material.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After reading through the publisher\u2019s information, Payne\nsubmitted her story.&nbsp;\u201cThey accepted it, and I signed the agreement in\nJanuary 2018. The book came out in March of this year,\u201d&nbsp;Payne explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Magic Piano\u201d&nbsp;is Payne\u2019s first book, and the\nprocess was a great learning experience about the publishing process. Payne\nexplained that shortly after her book was accepted, she was assigned a\npublishing specialist, who worked with her over the course of a year to edit\nand design the book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking of the cover design, Payne said,&nbsp;\u201cI got eight\nor nine illustrations from an artist, and I picked the one I liked best. I\nworked with the illustrator for five months to get what I wanted. It was tough\nbecause I wanted to see what I had seen in the dream!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The finished edition is a 10-by-12-inch, 24-page book that\nincludes 12 illustrated pages opposite 12 pages of text.&nbsp;\u201cAfter the third\ntry, the company understood that I wanted it printed so that kids could learn\nto read it from the letters they were learning in kindergarten,\u201d&nbsp;she\nexplained. The target audience of the book is children ages 5 to 8, although\nolder children and adults can enjoy reading it to a younger audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Payne is pleased that the publisher, who distributes worldwide, recently sent out a press release to more than 3,000 outlets. The book is currently available in hardcover, paperback and Kindle formats on amazon.com, and is also available to purchase on Barnes and Noble\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy family is so excited,\u201d&nbsp;said Payne.&nbsp;\u201cThey\u2019re\ngetting it and sharing with their friends! I have 11 grandchildren and eight\ngreat-grandchildren. My daughter and I went to Tennessee to see my son\u2019s family\nand his kids in May. I signed lots of books for them at their house \u2014 it was\nwonderful!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Payne\u2019s church, which live streams their services, is also excited about the book.\u00a0\u201cThe pastor asked me to come up one day and talk about my book,\u201d\u00a0she said.\u00a0\u201cLast Sunday, there was a lady at church visiting from Oklahoma. I asked her how she knew about the book, and she had seen it through the live stream! I had worldwide advertising, right from church!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Payne is looking forward to visiting her local library\nduring story hour to share her book and provide the library with a copy.
