It\u2019s meant to protect public health, but it could come at a noisy\nprice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lee County Mosquito Control District is unveiling new technology\nto battle mosquitoes, a machine that releases a spray to kill mosquito larva,\npreventing them from being a nuisance or health hazard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis particular species is one that\u2019s capable of spreading dengue\nfever, the chikungunya virus, Zika virus and it\u2019s one that lives right around\nus,\u201d said Eric Jackson with the district. \u201cIt prefers us as a host to get blood\nfrom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The district said the new machine is aimed to protect health.\nJackson said bacteria coming out of a chimney-like device will kill mosquito\nlarva in plants and bodies of water outside homes, attacking the bugs before\nthey are fully grown and can bite people. The bacteria spray also stops the\nmost dangerous of mosquito species from carrying disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The machines will only operate at night. The district said\nmosquitoes are more active after dark, and it said the substance sprayed won\u2019t\nharm people or their pets, but it is a naturally occurring bacteria found in\nsoil.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a new way to fight biting, blood-thirsty bugs in Lee County.
