{"id":43744,"date":"2019-07-08T17:23:31","date_gmt":"2019-07-08T21:23:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=43744"},"modified":"2019-07-08T17:23:43","modified_gmt":"2019-07-08T21:23:43","slug":"lcso-agricultural-unit-makes-arrest-of-abusive-horse-owner-in-lehigh-acres","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2019\/07\/lcso-agricultural-unit-makes-arrest-of-abusive-horse-owner-in-lehigh-acres\/","title":{"rendered":"LCSO Agricultural Unit Makes Arrest of Abusive Horse Owner in Lehigh Acres"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-2 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Gamez-Azcanio-Jose.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"43745\" data-link=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?attachment_id=43745\" class=\"wp-image-43745\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Gamez-Azcanio-Jose.jpg 480w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Gamez-Azcanio-Jose-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure><\/li><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1512\" height=\"2016\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Horse-1.jpg?fit=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"43746\" data-link=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?attachment_id=43746\" class=\"wp-image-43746\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Horse-1.jpg 1512w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Horse-1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Horse-1-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1512px) 100vw, 1512px\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On July 3, 2019, the Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office received a\ncall for service regarding possible animal cruelty\/neglect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of the Agricultural Crimes Unit were dispatched to\nthe 21000 block of Edwards Drive, just west of Joel Boulevard, in Lehigh Acres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The complainant expressed concerns about a malnourished\nhorse on a nearby property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office deputy located the Paint Mare,\na white and brown horse showing signs of malnutrition.&nbsp; Using the Henneke\nBody Condition Scoring System, which is based upon a visual observation and a\nmanual examination of fat cover over the six major points of the horse, the\nanimal was deemed to be in distress.&nbsp; The scale rates horses from one to\nnine, one being gaunt and skeletal and nine reflecting obesity.&nbsp; The horse\nwas scored at 2.5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the horse had sores and cuts on the back of\nthe horse\u2019s rear legs.&nbsp; A fresh wound on the left side of the horse\u2019s head\nbled and was infested with flies.&nbsp; The horse\u2019s hooves were overgrown and\ncracking and a scar was apparent on the horse\u2019s neck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The owner of the horse, Jose Antonio Gamez Azcanio (DOB\n02-04-1948), was located and interviewed.&nbsp; Based on a thorough\ninvestigation, which included gathering information from the horse\u2019s previous\nowner, Gamez Azcanio was arrested and charged with violations of Florida\nStatutes 826.12(1) (Torment\/Deprive\/Mutilate\/Kill an Animal and 588.24 (Permit\nLivestock to Run at Large or Stray).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI want to be crystal clear,\u201d stated Sheriff Carmine\nMarceno.&nbsp; \u201cThere will be zero-tolerance for ANY abuse in Lee County.\n&nbsp;If you abuse an animal, we will find you and put you behind bars where\nyou belong.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The horse is currently at the Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office\nimpound yard receiving veterinary care.&nbsp; Gamez Azcanio is in LCSO custody.<br>\n<br>\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On July 3, 2019, the Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office received a call for service regarding possible animal cruelty\/neglect.
