Ron DeSantis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gov. DeSantis signed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2019\/722\/BillText\/c2\/PDF\">HB 487<\/a>&nbsp;into\nlaw on Friday along with 37 other bills. The law creates provisions for\nparamedics to have the same privileges as a law enforcement officer during\n&#8220;high-risk incidents,&#8221; including, but not limited to, hostage\nincidents, drug raids, armed suicidal persons, barricaded suspects, high risk\nfelony warrant service, fugitives refusing to surrender, and active shooter\nincidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the law, paramedics have no duty to retreat and\n&#8220;are justified in the use of any force which he or she reasonably believes\nis necessary to defend himself or herself or another from bodily harm.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to be eligible to carry, the paramedic must already\nhave a concealed weapons permit, completes firearms safety training and\nparticipate in annual firearm training and tactical training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The law takes effect July 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/06\/10\/us\/florida-armed-ems\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>&nbsp;,\nKansas and Ohio already have emergency responder-firearm laws in place. Similar\nbills have been proposed in Tennessee, Mississippi and Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last month, Gov. DeSantis signed a bill into law that\nallows&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtxl.com\/news\/local-news\/desantis-signs-bill-allowing-armed-teachers\">armed\nteachers on Florida campuses.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Will we see weapons carried be Lehigh Acres Fire and Rescue District?
