<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nCity of Palms alums make up one out of every five players\ntaking part in the 2019 NBA Draft Combine, which set for this Thursday and\nFriday in Chicago. The event includes scrimmages and drills as well as body\nmeasurements and meetings between teams and players. The most highly touted of\nthe 66 players involved, like City of Palms alum R.J. Barrett, will likely skip\nthe scrimmages and drills, and maybe even the measurements, but they\u2019ll\nnonetheless be interviewing with teams eager to find out what makes them tick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Barrett, who played in both the 2015 and 2016 City of Palms\nClassics with Montverde Academy, is projected to go in the top five, as is Vanderbilt\npoint guard Darius Garland, who came to the 2016 City of Palms with Brentwood\n(Tennessee) Academy. Another two-time City of Palms player and top-10 prospect\nis Barrett\u2019s Duke teammate Cam Reddish, who was at the 2015 and 2016 City of\nPalms with Westtown (West Chester, Pennsylvania).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Their combine appearances are unlikely to radically alter\ntheir draft stock. But for less-heralded players, it\u2019s an opportunity to make\nan impression and start rising on draft boards. Some underclassmen will use the\ncombine to help them decide by the May 29 withdrawal deadline whether to stay\nin the draft or return to college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, players like Shamorie Ponds of St. John\u2019s, who came to\nthe 2015 City of Palms with Jefferson High (Brooklyn, New York), and Simisola\nShittu, who was Barrett\u2019s high school teammate and Garland\u2019s college teammate,\nprobably have more at stake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A total of 14 City of Palms alums will be participating in\none way or another at the combine. It\u2019s unlikely all of them will be drafted,\nbut if they are, it would surpass the record of 12 former City of Palms players\ntaken in last year\u2019s draft.
