One local crosswalk has been the site of many accidents and near hits over the years. Now local families want to know why nothing is being done about it. The crosswalk in question is at Leeland Heights Blvd and Michigan Rd, near Lehigh Acres Middle School.<\/p>\n

Every day for a two week period, the staff of the Lehigh Acres Gazette sat near the intersection of Leeland Heights Blvd and Michigan Rd, and witnessed 134 vehicles, speeding through the crosswalk when the yellow flasher lights were on. While another 19 times that vehicles nearly hit children or the crossing guard.<\/p>\n

The Lee County Sheriff Offices stated that they had received numerous calls but when deputies arrived that they had seen no speeding but would endeavor to step up patrols near that intersection.<\/p>\n

After speaking to LCSO, the staff of the Lehigh Acres Gazette continued to watch the intersection for another 2 weeks and notice no notable increase in LCSO patrol near the intersection, while staff did witness another 113 speeding vehicles.<\/p>\n

A homeowner near the intersection, say they see speeding all the time. \u201cI hope that something gets down before a child is killed.\u201d Said Susan Lawton<\/p>\n

Remember that when the lights are flashing to slow down and watch for children. Who know maybe one day your speeding will kill your own child or someone else\u2019s child.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
