A\u00a0Lehigh Acres\u00a0woman is facing two charges of aggravated assault\u00a0after she reportedly yelled “I’m going to run him over” and then aimed the car she was driving at her son-in-law, hitting him and her daughter, pinning the woman under the car and then running her over.<\/p>\n
The woman, Lisa Newsom, is being held on $110,000 bond in the Lee\u00a0County Jail on the two assault felony charges and a third felony moving violation.<\/p>\n
A report from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said Newsom hit her son-in-law, Walther Gilbert, as he walked along Wellington Avenue in Lehigh Acres with his wife Prussia Gilbert, at 2:30 on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Prussia Gilbert was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where she remains in critical condition. Detectives said she could not be interviewed due to her injuries.<\/p>\n
Walther Gilbert\u00a0said his wife had told him she was going to go party with Newsom, her mother, and told deputies he had been pleading with his wife not to go.<\/p>\n
He told deputies later that his wife’s behavior had changed recently and she had been going out late at night to “party” with her mother.<\/p>\n
The sheriff’s report said that as the couple walked\u00a0toward Newsom’s\u00a0silver 2004\u00a0Honda Civic, she yelled “911” and “I’m going to run him down,” and accelerated\u00a0the car.<\/p>\n
The car then hit Walther Gilbert, vaulting him over the hood\u00a0and knocked Prussia Gilbert to the ground, pinning her under the vehicle.<\/p>\n
The report said Walther Gilbert reached into the car and put it into park, telling Newsom not to drive.<\/p>\n
However, the report detailed, Newsom then put the car back into drive, ran\u00a0over her daughter and fled the scene.<\/p>\n
After being detained, Newsom told investigators that she was under the influence of Xanax. The medication is used to treat anxiety disorders, panic disorders, and anxiety caused by depression\u00a0and\u00a0is a controlled substance that can cause paranoia or suicidal actions and impair memory, judgment, and coordination.<\/p>\n
Walther Gilbert suffered abrasions and\u00a0road rash to his nose and arms but declined medical care.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
