Dear Editor,<\/p>\n

Under Obama\u2019s leadership, the world was saved from another Great Depression. The vast majority of economists say that the nation had a high chance of slipping into a depression in 2009 had the stimulus not passed, along with the aggressive actions of the Federal Reserve. Obama continued bailouts that President George W. Bush had begun and initiated a large stimulus package.<\/p>\n

Acting independently, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke worked very innovatively behind the scenes to shore up the banking system. Without these actions, we might be standing in bread lines now. The economy appears to be slowly improving with the recession ending in June 2009. The federal unemployment rate dropped down to 8.3 percent and the economy added 227,000 jobs in the February jobs report. In the last two years, businesses have created more than 3 million jobs.<\/p>\n

Obama signed the landmark Affordable Care Act into law March 23, 2010. It has many benefits that we would not want repealed. The comprehensive health care reforms are being phased in and already have improved the quality of life for many Americans. It isn\u2019t a government-operated program, but instead it is run by the private sector. It expands access to health care for 32 million Americans that couldn\u2019t afford insurance before. It closes the \u201cdoughnut hole\u201d for Medicare prescription drugs; allows young adults to remain under their parent\u2019s coverage longer; prevents being denied insurance for pre-existing conditions; and shifts focus to preventive care. It is predicted that the Affordable Care Act will save approximately $200 billion over the next 10 years and reduce the deficit by an estimated $1.3 trillion over the next 20 years.<\/p>\n

Obama was responsible for the rescue of the U.S. automobile industry. He engineered a government bailout of General Motors and Chrysler, thus saving them from an impending collapse. Not one private investor could be found to save the industry. Now GM is again the world\u2019s biggest automaker and is paying back its loan from the government. Today, there are 1.45 million jobs that have been saved as a direct result of the bailout. Unions made concessions to the bailout deal by reduced wages, dental coverage, vacation benefits and health benefits.<\/p>\n

Another reason the president should be re-elected is his logical, systematic approach to war. He ended the war in Iraq and is drawing down the troops in Afghanistan in a responsible manner. Under his leadership, Osama bin Laden was killed along with many al-Qaida terrorists, and the prison at Guantanamo Bay is being phased out. In addition, Bush\u2019s policy was changed to ensure the U.S. has a no-torture policy.<\/p>\n

The Democrats have a saying, \u201cWhen you\u2019re driving a car, put it in \u2018D\u2019 to go forward and \u2018R\u2019 to go backward.\u201d Vote Democrat to move ahead.<\/p>\n
