Last Wednesday the 20th,\u00a0Clifford Green says his 9-year-old dog named Buddy was playing in the yard with his two children when Buddy began chasing a garbage truck that drove by.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe guy stopped the truck, got out, came and attacked my dog with a bat,\u201d Green said.<\/p>\n
Green says his 10-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son witnessed the\u00a0entire incident\u00a0and the employee of Progressive Waste Solutions didn\u2019t stick around to speak to the family.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe guy just left my dog pretty much there\u2026 beaten,\u201d Green said.\u00a0\u201cMy 10-year-old, she\u2019s constantly asked me, \u2018what would make a person do that to our dog?’\u201d<\/p>\n
Now, Buddy\u00a0is learning how to get around with just one eye\u00a0after having to get the other one\u00a0removed.<\/p>\n
Green says both Progressive Waste Solutions and Lee County Domestic Animal Services (LCDAS) told him Buddy\u00a0should have been on a leash.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m more than welcome to accept that punishment for not having my dog on a leash, but I\u00a0want something done about the animal abuse that happened to my dog,\u201d Green explained.<\/p>\n
While covering the story Lehigh Acres Gazette witnessed Lt. Cruz Lee County Domestic Animal Services (LCDAS) entering Progressive Waste Solutions but would not talk to us about the dog of the issue.<\/p>\n
Progressive\u00a0Waste posted on their Facebook page that they\u2019re taking the matter \u201cvery seriously\u201d and an internal investigation is underway. An attorney for Progressive Waste said they cannot comment on an ongoing investigation, but they are working with\u00a0LCDAS.<\/p>\n
Green still wonders why\u00a0the\u00a0truck driver\u00a0was carrying around a bat.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u00a0still don\u2019t understand why he would have a bat.\u00a0Me personally, at work we\u2019re provided with dog repellent,\u201d Green said. \u201cAfter I\u00a0spoke with the supervisor, he said,\u00a0you know, having a baseball bat was unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Green; Today Buddy seems to be do well over all health wise but definitely seems down in the dumps today and not wanting to eat. It\u2019s very sad to see him well this sad. Diesel his brother has been the annoying little brother that rips his own cone off every single time i put it on him and continues to try and help Buddy escape from his. I think they are feeling very cooped up in the house since we can only walk them on the leash.
