A Lehigh Acres man was arrested as part of an online predator sting conducted by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, which resulted in a total of 13 arrests.<\/p>\n

Investigators said the suspects, ranging in age from 18-53, responded to Internet-based ads, online apps or social media sites and engaged in sexual written and verbal conversations during the three-day sting dubbed “Operation Intercept IV.”<\/p>\n

According to the sheriff’s office, all of the suspects traveled with the intent to have sex with a male or female child, with some of them evening bringing a condom and sharing explicit photos.<\/p>\n

More than half of the suspects live in Sarasota County and the others in surrounding counties including DeSoto, Pinellas and Hillsborough.<\/p>\n

The suspects’ mobile devices were seized during the operation, and detectives said some of the information obtained has prompted additional investigations that are ongoing.<\/p>\n

Other agencies that assisted the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office include the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Sarasota, North Port and Punta Gorda police departments.<\/p>\n

The following suspects were arrested in the three-day operation and charged with:<\/p>\n

Joshua Betts, DOB 06\/15\/80, 1972 Debbie St., Sarasota; Use of a Computer to Solicit a Child to Commit Sex Act, Travel to Solicit a Child to Commit Sex Acts, Lewd or Lascivious Battery \u2013 Attempted, Transmission of Materials Harmful to Minors by Electronic Device.<\/p>\n
