Lee County deputies are investigating a “workplace death” at a Lehigh Acres concrete company.<\/p>\n

It happened around 4:50 a.m. at Coastal, 421 Leonard Boulevard N.<\/p>\n

A family member identified the victim today as 23-year–old Zavarius “Zee” Philius.<\/p>\n

Employees at the plant told the victim’s mother Philius was killed when he got caught in a cement mixer.<\/p>\n

Philius’ mother told us\u00a0he dropped something in the mixer, which was off at the time. When he went to retrieve it, the mixer somehow turned on.<\/p>\n

Philius had only worked at the plan for a few months.<\/p>\n

The victim’s mother said the plant was closed down last week, and employees were told there were mechanical issues with the cement mixers.<\/p>\n

A representative from the Occupational Health and Safety Administration told us someone from their Tampa office is on the way to investigate the death.<\/p>\n

The business is closed for the day, but a sign in a window indicates it will reopen Thursday.<\/p>\n

A Wednesday morning death at a Lehigh Acres concrete company is under investigation by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n

Neither the victim’s name nor the circumstances have been released following the incident at Coastal on 421 Leonard Blvd N.<\/p>\n

According to our website: Coastal has been in the concrete products business since 1965 and is recognized as the premier manufacturer and distributor in Florida for Masonry and Hardscape products.<\/p>\n

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been called, and the sheriff’s office will do its own investigation.<\/p>\n
