The road to personal injury protection (PIP) reform has been a long and challenging one. I congratulate the Florida Legislature for successfully passing reforms aimed at rooting out fraud and abuse in the PIP system and focusing on driving down auto insurance rates for Florida’s consumers. Early on, I encouraged our legislative leaders to let the data provided by the Insurance Consumer Advocate’s report<\/a> drive the discussion on PIP. Nobody can argue with what the data shows us, and I believe we have legislation that addresses the most fraud-ridden areas.<\/p>\n This bill returns PIP to its original intent to provide emergency care to individuals who have been injured in an auto accident. These reforms target services that have been over-utilized and abused in the current system. With the creation of a PIP Fraud Strike Force, we can ensure that we stay on top of the fraud and prevent it from taking over this system again.<\/p>\n When I took office as Florida’s CFO, I made a commitment to do all I could to go after the enterprising industries cheating Floridians out of their hard-earned dollars. With the passage of this bill and the help of Florida’s Legislature, I know we have gone a long way in fulfilling that promise. I’m eager to start seeing the positive impacts of this bill in the form of rate relief for Florida’s consumers.
