{"id":38794,"date":"2016-02-08T18:49:41","date_gmt":"2016-02-08T23:49:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=38794"},"modified":"2016-02-08T20:53:25","modified_gmt":"2016-02-09T01:53:25","slug":"lee-elections-website-so-called-hacked-by-supervisor-of-elections-candidate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2016\/02\/lee-elections-website-so-called-hacked-by-supervisor-of-elections-candidate\/","title":{"rendered":"Lee Elections Website So-called Hacked By Supervisor of Elections Candidate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/38rsseDeFYQ?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\"><\/iframe><\/center><center><\/center><center><\/center>FDLE officials are investigating two men, one of whom is a\u00a0candidate for\u00a0Lee County\u00a0supervisor of elections who is accused of hacking\u00a0into the website of the agency he is trying to run.<\/p>\n<p>Dan Sinclair\u00a0and\u00a0David Levin,\u00a0CEO\u00a0of Vanguard Cybersecurity,\u00a0hacked into the\u00a0Lee elections website\u00a0a couple of weeks ago,\u00a0said Vicki Collins, spokeswoman for the Lee County Supervisor of Elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was an attempted hacking of the website, but this is an ongoing investigation of the website,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u201cThe info they accessed was an old server with no (useful) information on\u00a0it &#8230;\u00a0Nobody is compromised.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->All the men accessed were intra-office passwords from about a year and a half ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis office did not invite them into the website,\u201d\u00a0Collins said.<\/p>\n<p>Sinclair\u00a0is\u00a0running for supervisor position\u00a0against the incumbent\u00a0Supervisor of Elections Sharon\u00a0Harrington<\/p>\n<p>The men\u00a0posted the hacking to YouTube\u00a0and\u00a0contacted Harrington \u201cto tell her that they had done this,\u201d\u00a0Collins said.<\/p>\n<p>Harrington then\u00a0contacted Lee Sheriff Mike Scott, who told her to go to the FDLE.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about the case, Molly Best, an FDLE spokeswoman, said:\u00a0&#8220;There was a search warrant (that was served).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But because it is an active investigation, &#8220;we\u2019re not able to release anything at this time,&#8221; Best said.<\/p>\n<p>Best would not say when the warrant was served.<\/p>\n<p>Collins reassured that not voter information or history was accessed.<\/p>\n<p>She said the hacking \u201chad nothing whatsoever with the tabulation center&#8221; which is\u00a0in a separate system \u201cthat is not even able to be accessed by the Internet.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FDLE officials are investigating two men, one of whom is a\u00a0candidate for\u00a0Lee County\u00a0supervisor of elections who is accused of hacking\u00a0into the website of the agency he is trying to run.&hellip; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/38794"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=38794"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/38794\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=38794"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=38794"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=38794"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
