Follow up at 12:18 pm: \u00a0Lehigh boys basketball coach Dawn\u00a0McNew, who was suspended for the rest of the season after nine members of her team recorded a vulgar rap video in the locker room, was officially reinstated Monday, according to her attorney.<\/p>\n

Mike McQuagge said he received official\u00a0confirmation from the Lee County School District of the\u00a0reinstatement.<\/p>\n

The players were originally suspended for the season as well, but their punishment was reduced to a five-day school suspension \u2013 which ended Monday. They’re all eligible to play in the team’s next game, scheduled for Thursday night at Golden Gate High School.<\/p>\n

McQuagge said McNew will be at practice Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Many parents had come to McNew’s defense in the days after the initial suspensions were handed down, pointing out that she was not in the locker room when the video was recorded.<\/p>\n

“We need her.\u00a0We need her back,” said Bernard Edwards, a team parent. “She couldn’t have been in the locker room with the boys changing\u00a0clothes and she didn’t know they were going to make the video.”<\/p>\n

And McNew’s parents said they’re surprised the district has been so strict with her.<\/p>\n
