Has the Lee County School Administrators lost their XXXXXXX minds? Who is kidding who?<\/p>\n
The most respected basketball coaching staff that Lehigh Senior has ever had, and now they are suspended until further notice!!!!!!<\/p>\n
A group of nine teenage boys suspended from school for five days and from all sports for the rest of the school year.<\/p>\n
For what?\u00a0Please tell me somebody actual broke law or did something to someone.<\/p>\n
No.\u00a0Well then, So what the Fxxk!<\/p>\n
Nine Lehigh Senior boys basketball players\u00a0produced a profane and sexually explicit two-minute rap video last Thursday night then posted on social media.\u00a0Not to make light of the video because it embarrassed the kids, their families, the team and the school.\u00a0But that’s it!!!!<\/p>\n
That’s all it was and that’s all they did.\u00a0It was not illegal and it harmed no one.\u00a0It was in VERY poor taste, inappropriate and VERY embarrassing.<\/p>\n
Well then let’s throw the WHOLE book at the players, in Lehigh Principal Jackie Corey’s own words, some “exemplary kids.”<\/p>\n
There is nothing in the Lee County schools Code of Conduct that justifies this extensive a punishment for either the coaches or the students.\u00a0Nothing!!!!!!!\u00a0The maximum penalty for what these kids were guilty of is a two-day suspension.<\/p>\n
They do have the right under the law of FREEDOM OF SPEECH, in good taste or bad taste, inappropriate and embarrassing the nine player still have the right under the United States Constitution.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe\u00a0First Amendment\u00a0(Amendment I) to the\u00a0United States Constitution\u00a0prohibits the making of any law\u00a0respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the\u00a0free exercise of religion, abridging the\u00a0freedom of speech<\/strong>, infringing on the\u00a0freedom of the press, interfering with the\u00a0right to peaceably assemble\u00a0or prohibiting the\u00a0petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.\u201d<\/p>\n Making matters worse, the Lee County School District Administrators didn’t stand up with Principal Corey they went over her head and ordered her to give players the extended punishment and suspend the coaches.<\/p>\n Until proven otherwise, the coaches did nothing wrong except not suspending the kids for Wednesday night’s playoff game vs. Estero.\u00a0(In which Lehigh Senior Win that Game with their JV unit).<\/p>\n All actions have consequences and these kids needed to pay an on-court price for what they did.\u00a0The Code of Conduct two-day suspension (Rule 48 \u2014 Other Violations \u2014 1st major offense) and missing a district semifinal playoff game is a fairly significant punishment from where I come from.\u00a0But a five-day suspension and\u00a0no more sports for the rest of the year?\u00a0That’s a scandal.<\/p>\n This is yet another example of absolute power, corrupting absolutely at the Lee County School Board.\u00a0Lehigh Senior principal Corey spent all day Wednesday saying this was a joint decision in conjunction with the school board and her hands were tied, yet every time anyone from Lehigh Acres Gazette contacted\u00a0a school district official they said\u00a0this decision was HERS ALONE.
