One Lehigh Acres teen was still in jail Tuesday night after shooting two people and sending them to the hospital the day after Thanksgiving.\u00a0Fifteen-year-old Terrance Stewart was originally taken into juvenile custody, but will now be tried as an adult.<\/p>\n
One of the witnesses told TV Station NBC2 they think\u00a0jail is no place for one who’s 15 years old. However, family members of the victims are happy the suspected shooter is behind bars.<\/p>\n
Shots were fired in the middle of a residential Lehigh Acres neighborhood.<\/p>\n
“Like it was yesterday, I remember, I remember being swarmed by the cops over here at the intersection,” said Wesley Beck, a witness to the incident.<\/p>\n
The details are also still fresh in Georgia Hammell’s mind.<\/p>\n
“I felt my ears start ringing. It was so loud, I thought it was right underneath my window. I thought somebody was shooting at my cats or firecrackers or something,” said Hammell.<\/p>\n
Deputies and witnesses said the person pulling the trigger was fifteen-year-old Terrance Stewart.<\/p>\n
The day after Thanksgiving, he allegedly shot two Lehigh Acres teens.\u00a0The separate shootings happened just hours apart.<\/p>\n
“I was face-to-face with somebody who possibly just committed two murders,” Beck said.<\/p>\n
He said he saw Stewart running away from the shooting scene on foot. He was relieved to learn Stewart will now be tried as an adult.<\/p>\n
“Truthfully, I preferred to see him behind bars for the rest of his life. That’s where I stand for someone to do that kind of damage to two families within hours of each other. He deserves to be tried as an adult.”<\/p>\n
But not everyone took such a hard line.<\/p>\n
“He made a bad, bad mistake, one right after the other. How could you say that somebody can’t be turned around? I mean, he’s only 15!” exclaimed Hammell.<\/p>\n
Old enough to be charged with aggravated battery and assault with a deadly weapon and a robbery, Stewart is currently being held on a $310,000 bond.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
