{"id":36726,"date":"2015-08-24T16:32:13","date_gmt":"2015-08-24T20:32:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=36726"},"modified":"2015-08-24T16:32:13","modified_gmt":"2015-08-24T20:32:13","slug":"troopers-hoping-for-new-clues-in-cold-case-hit-and-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2015\/08\/troopers-hoping-for-new-clues-in-cold-case-hit-and-run\/","title":{"rendered":"Troopers Hoping For New Clues In Cold Case Hit And Run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-36727\" title=\"Stephen Calvello\" src=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Stephen-Calvello-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Stephen-Calvello-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Stephen-Calvello-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Stephen-Calvello-50x50.jpeg 50w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Stephen-Calvello.jpeg 540w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Despite nearly a decade having gone by, Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is hoping that someone will recall a detail from the past that could help bring closure to a 2005 fatal hit and run crash.<\/p>\n<p>It was just before\u00a0midnight\u00a0on November 5, 2005 when 60 year old Stephen Calvello was walking home from the Cin-Cin Mediterranean Grill, located at\u00a013451 McGregor Boulevard,\u00a0Fort Myers, when an unknown driver struck Calvello then fled the scene leaving him for dead.\u00a0 Two Good Samaritans saw Calvello lying in the roadway and stopped to try to render first aid until paramedics arrived.\u00a0 <!--more-->They reported that theFort Myers\u00a0pedestrian had a faint pulse and was breathing at the time, however Calvello suffered numerous internal and external injures and subsequently succumbed to his injuries a short time later at\u00a0Lee\u00a0Memorial\u00a0Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>To date, there have been no witnesses to the actual crash itself \u2013 or information on the person who was behind the wheel that night.\u00a0 A thorough investigation of the crash scene by the Florida Highway Patrol led troopers to believe that Calvello was struck by a low riding, dark in color vehicle travelling northbound on\u00a0McGregor Boulevard.\u00a0 Calvello was vaulted up as a result of the crash and landed on the roadway several hundred feet away.\u00a0 Due to the severity of the injuries the victim suffered, the driver absolutely had to know he just hit a pedestrian, but failed to stop, call 9-1-1 or attempt to render aid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no doubt that the person responsible for this tragedy still has this horrific episode weighing on their conscience,\u201d said Trish Routte, Crime Stoppers Coordinator.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s unconscionable to think that a driver could hit another human being and then just take off like nothing ever happened.\u00a0 Crime Stoppers wants to remind the driver, whomever he or she may be, that it\u2019s never too late to do the right thing and come forward and help bring closure to the Calvello family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information on the driver or vehicle involved in the hit and run death of Stephen Calvello is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).\u00a0 All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.\u00a0 Tips may also be made online at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.swflcrimestoppers.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.swflcrimestoppers.org<\/a>\u00a0or by texting a tip to CRIMES (274637) Keyword: REWARD.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite nearly a decade having gone by, Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is hoping that someone will recall a detail from the past that could help bring closure to a 2005&hellip;
