This fall, the Kiwanis Club will have 53 students enrolled in colleges and universities nationwide. Carrick said students will receive $239,150 in foundation scholarships.<\/p>\n
“This is all possible because of the wonderful people who donate and purchase clothing and household items of all kinds from the Kiwanis Thrift Store,” he said.<\/p>\n
The store is at 15 Homestead Road.<\/p>\n
Carrick said it would be impossible without the public and the volunteers who donate their valuable time, talents, and energy.<\/p>\n
“We are thankful to each and every one of them for making these awards and all of our community, school, youth programs and sponsorships possible,” he said.<\/p>\n
Carrick is the scholarship committee president and Larry Gutridge is the co-chairman.<\/p>\n
Growable scholarships were also awarded at the banquet. The amount of $250 was presented to students who were selected because of their volunteer hours at school, church or in the community.<\/p>\n
Carrick said the scholarship is growable because each year the recipient has an opportunity to increase it by an additional $250.<\/p>\n
“They will have the opportunity to join our Kiwanis Leadership Program in the school that they will be attending this fall,” he said. “Additionally, should they continue their volunteer service by providing 100 verified service volunteer hours, then upon graduation from high school, our Kiwanis Foundation will total up the years and awards and present the students with a college scholarship in the total amount that they have received over the years.”<\/p>\n
