According to Major Tim Gilliam of the Salvation Army, Last Christmas, 27 percent of those helped by the Salvation Army came from Lehigh.<\/p>\n<p>Workers will now be on hand to assist people with things like power and water bills, crisis management, and emergency food.<\/p>\n<p>The Salvation Army cut the ribbon to their new center Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The community has been waiting a long time for a closer Salvation Army location. Residents who needed help used to travel all the way to downtown Fort Myers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited that the Salvation Army\u2019s finally in Lehigh Acres. We want other people in the community to come celebrate with us, and we hope that in the days ahead that we help make this great community even better by providing our services,\u201d said Major Tim Gilliam.<\/p>\n<p>The center will be open Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m.- noon, and Wednesday from 8 a.m.- 3 p.m. It\u2019s located in the Lehigh Towne Centre plaza at 25 Homestead Road, Unit 42A.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.salvationarmyflorida.org\/fortmyers\/\">For more information, click here to visit the Salvation Army\u2019s website.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Salvation Army\u2019s opening its first service center in Lehigh Acres, a community the charity says desperately needs help.
