{"id":35721,"date":"2015-04-27T08:46:08","date_gmt":"2015-04-27T12:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=35721"},"modified":"2015-04-27T08:47:32","modified_gmt":"2015-04-27T12:47:32","slug":"kiwanis-store-forced-to-pay-fire-assessment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2015\/04\/kiwanis-store-forced-to-pay-fire-assessment\/","title":{"rendered":"Kiwanis Store Forced <br>To Pay Fire Assessment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1251\" title=\"kiwanis logo\" src=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/kiwanis-logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"274\" height=\"184\" \/>Kiwanis store will be forced to pay fire assessment as other not for profits get away without paying it.<\/p>\n<p>The Kiwanins scholarship committee meet the other day, and was wondering each four of their scholarship recipients will NOT receive there promised college scholarship money do to these $4000 bill that the Fire Department has laid on the store.<\/p>\n<p>We are going to let the Fire Board choose which scholarship recipient will not get their money and why?<\/p>\n<p>The fire board promised that all 100% wholly exempt properties will not have to pay this fire tax assessment but they the board changed their minds.<\/p>\n<p>According to Fire Board records the American Legion, VFW, Moose, Eagles, Knights of Columbus and even the Mason&#8217;s Lodge will have to pay up too.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Fire Board will be using the Lee County Property Appraiser\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.leepa.org\/Docs\/Codes\/Improvement_Code_List.pdf\">Improvement codes<\/a>\u00a0to generate the tax roll for the Fire Assessment according Chief John Wayne and later confirm by an email from Jeff Rackley Senior Project Manager Government Services Group, Inc. who is consultant for the Fire Board they are using for this fire assessment.<\/p>\n<p>Using improvement codes will cause many of the Churches, Fraternal organizations and other not for profits that own property in Lehigh Acres to pay the fire assessment tax.<\/p>\n<p>But according to the James A. Sherron Chief Deputy Director of Lee County Property Appraiser Office,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u201cThe Improvement codes are for internal use only and are used for valuation and appraisal purposes only by the Lee County Property Appraiser Office and should not be used by any other governmental entity for taxation purposes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>So how can one not for profit entity pay, when another gets exempted. Where is this fair and reasonable?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Gazette\u00a0has learned that two of the five fire commissioners are possibly working on two different amendments to the correct the current resolution.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Gazette\u00a0has also learned that a hand full Churches, Fraternal organizations in Lehigh Acres are looking into filling a class action law suit against the Fire Board for deceptive business practices.<\/p>\n<p>The next Fire Board meeting is April 28, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District, Station 104, 3102 16th St SW, Lehigh Acres, FL 33976.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kiwanis store will be forced to pay fire assessment as other not for profits get away without paying it.
