{"id":35345,"date":"2015-03-19T13:17:04","date_gmt":"2015-03-19T17:17:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=35345"},"modified":"2015-03-19T13:17:04","modified_gmt":"2015-03-19T17:17:04","slug":"horse-remains-found-in-lehigh-acres-near-clark-ave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2015\/03\/horse-remains-found-in-lehigh-acres-near-clark-ave\/","title":{"rendered":"Horse Remains Found In<br> Lehigh Acres Near Clark Ave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-11815\" title=\"SheriffLine\" src=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/SheriffLine-300x211.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/SheriffLine-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/SheriffLine.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Two horses were found dead and cut into pieces. \u00a0The remains were left on the side of the road.<\/p>\n<p>Dianne Chilton found the gruesome remains and contacted the Lee County Sheriff&#8217;s Office. \u00a0The remains were seen near 13th Street and Clark Avenue off of Williams Road.<\/p>\n<p>Chilton was driving by when she spotted a swarm of buzzards surrounding the remains of two dead horses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It looked like someone took a chainsaw and just sawed these horses up. \u00a0There were two heads [and] bodies. \u00a0It was horrible.\u201d, said Chilton.<\/p>\n<p>The Lehigh Acres Gazette spoke to the sheriff&#8217;s office who tell us it appears no crime was committed. \u00a0That&#8217;s because it&#8217;s legal for a horse owner to butcher the animal for meat &#8212; as long as they don&#8217;t sell it.<\/p>\n<p>However, LCSO animal investigator Richard Couto says it&#8217;s a felony.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have so many crimes going on the people stealing horses and breaking into properties and slaughtering and butchering pet horses,&#8221; said Couto.<\/p>\n<p>The horses&#8217; bodies were found on private property. \u00a0But Couto said, even if the owners of the horses did this, it&#8217;s illegal to possess horse meat in Florida or anywhere else in the United States.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two horses were found dead and cut into pieces. \u00a0The remains were left on the side of the road.
