The Fort Myers Metro-McGregor Kiwanis<\/a>\u00a0held the 7th<\/sup>\u00a0annual Calusa Bug Chase 5K run and BUG Crawl on Jan. 31, 2015 at the\u00a0Calusa Nature Center<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0in Fort Myers. The race\u00a0benefitted the\u00a0Fort Myers-Metro Kiwanis Club\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0BUG (Bringing Up Grades) Program. There were 205 registered participants who\u00a0traveled the trails at the nature center and a portion of the asphalt bike path on Ortiz. The race was timed with Chrono Track Bib Tag Technology, and\u00a0was supervised by the\u00a0Fort Myers Track Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Title Big Bug Sponsor for the race was\u00a0Pool Pros, LLC<\/a>.\u00a0The McGregor Clinic<\/a>,\u00a0Nova Southeastern University<\/a>,\u00a0Paychex<\/a>,\u00a0Charlie Dodson of State Farm<\/a>,\u00a0Great Clips<\/a>,\u00a0Leslea Ellis, LLC<\/a>,\u00a0\u00a0Professional Awards of America, LLC<\/a>,\u00a0United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades, and Okeechobee<\/a>,\u00a0Law Offices of Thomas Dryden, P.L<\/a>.,\u00a0Island Aire of Southwest Florida<\/a>\u00a0and Ludden Insurance\u00a0also committed to sponsorships.\u00a0The Bagel Factory of Fort Myers<\/a>,\u00a0Lehigh Acres Gazette<\/a>,\u00a0Sun Harvest Citrus<\/a>,\u00a0IBERIABANK<\/a>,\u00a0Target<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Calusa Nature Center<\/a>\u00a0were in-kind sponsors. Sponsorships raised $2,950. Proceeds from the run are still being calculated by the\u00a0Fort Myers Track Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Caroline Mackenzie won overall female with a time of 20:52. Michael McHugh\u00a0won\u00a0overall male with a time of 17:25. Other winners included: Jodi Eltringham (Masters Female), Glen Button (Masters Male), Sandy Taylor (Grand Master Female), Randy McDowell (Grand Master Male), Jeannie Rice (Senior Grand Master Female) and Hal Pearson (Senior Grand Master Male). All proceeds benefit the Fort Myers Metro-McGregor Kiwanis BUG (Bring UP Grades) program, designed to provide recognition to local elementary students who raise their grades to an acceptable range and maintain or continue to raise them from one grading period to the next. The Metro-McGregor Kiwanis currently has BUG programs at Orangewood and Littleton Elementary schools and is actively seeking more schools to participate.<\/strong><\/p>\n
