In the aftermath of the recent attack of a local dog, used as a bait dog for fighting, Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers has partnered with several local anonymous residents to launch a Go Fund Me account to help increase reward money for information leading to the arrest of those behind these horrific illegal acts.<\/p>\n

Yesterday afternoon the site, named \u201cStop Illegal Dog Fighting\u201d was established.\u00a0 Although the impetus for the creation of the account was the attack on \u201cSunset,\u201d and the desperate hope that the person or persons responsible are identified and arrested for the crime, the site will extend to rewards for information on any type of dog fighting or animal abuse.\u00a0 Organizers of the account are hoping to utilize this as a means for animal lovers throughout\u00a0Southwest Florida, and beyond, to do whatever they can to help encourage people who have information about these types of crimes to come forward.\u00a0 The goal for the account is $50,000, which would be a pool of money to offer rewards of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of individuals participating in the dog fighting trade.\u00a0 This reward money would be in addition to the up to $1,000 offered by Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe heart wrenching attack on Sunset has struck a chord with animal lovers throughout our community,\u201d said Trish Routte, Crime Stoppers Coordinator.\u00a0 \u201cSo many people are outraged that sick individuals would use animals as bait and dog fighting and as a means of entertainment and profit making.\u00a0 The Go Fund Me account will enable anyone who wants to help to do what they can, be it $5 or $500, either anonymously or publicly.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cStop Illegal Dog Fighting\u201d account is currently being shared on social media and the first donations have started coming in.\u00a0 Until the account reaches the $500 mark, it can only be accessed through\u00a0the following link:\u00a0www.gofundme.com\/lmf15c<\/a>\u00a0.\u00a0 However, once that initial $500 mark is hit, the account will go public and will be easily found on the Go Fund Me page by simply searching \u201cStop Illegal Dog Fighting.\u201d<\/p>\n
