The proposal would legalize medical cannabis dispensaries as a means of safe access for patients, and caregivers would be authorized to purchase cannabis for designated patients.<\/p>\n<p>Filing of the proposal comes just two months after 58% of Florida voters\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thejointblog.com\/florida-medical-cannabis-initiative-falls-short\/\">voted to approve\u00a0<em>Amendment 2<\/em><\/a>, an initiative to legalize medical cannabis through a constitutional amendment, which failed narrowly given it needed 60% to pass. The group behind that initiative \u2013\u00a0<em>United for Care<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 is already working on a similar initiative, which was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thejointblog.com\/initiative-legalize-medical-cannabis-receives-approval-florida-secretary-state\/\">approved earlier this month<\/a>\u00a0by Florida\u2019s Secretary of State, with the goal of putting it to a vote in 2016.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Florida State\u00a0Senator Jeff Brandes, a Republican from St. Petersburg, has filed legislation to explicitly legalize the possession, use and distribution of cannabis for medical purposes.
