On October 3, 2014, at about 9:10 p.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call in the area of 3900 6th St W. in Lehigh Acres. The caller reported a bloody, naked man was trying to break into his house and was ripping the screen door off the front entry way.<\/p>\n
The subject, later identified as Florin Mateescu, age 34, walked away from the residence and hit the caller\u2019s vehicle, damaging it. Mateescu returned to his residence across the street and kicked open his own door.<\/p>\n
A short time later, a second 9-1-1 call was received from a woman identifying herself as Mateescu\u2019s wife. Deputies arrived on scene and were attacked by Mateescu, who was still naked and bleeding profusely.<\/p>\n
Matteescu refused to allow deputies to take him into custody and physically resisted their efforts. After finally taking Mateescu into custody, they noted he had what appeared to be self inflicted cuts to his neck. Paramedics arrived on scene and Mattescu experienced a medical event. As a result, he was transported to Lehigh Regional Hospital where he later died.<\/p>\n
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit were called to the scene and assumed the investigation.<\/p>\n
During the investigation, a search warrant was served on Mateescu\u2019s residence. During the search, deputies discovered a marijuana growing operation, bottles of anabolic steroids, and a homemade powerful hallucinogenic drug as well as several items used in the manufacturing of it.<\/p>\n
Blood was found in several areas of the house, where he had cut his own throat. During interviews, Mateescu\u2019s wife told detectives Mateescu said \u201cI am going to die tonight\u201d, prior to running outside and confronting deputies.<\/p>\n
An autopsy was conducted on Mateescu and results are pending toxicology testing. The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
