\"\"The Lee County School District has announced the passing of school board chairman Thomas Scott at the age of 66.<\/p>\n

The school district says he died Friday, September 26. He is survived by his wife, Kendra, and his sons, Joel and Brian.<\/p>\n

“Mr. Scott will be remembered for many positive contributions to the School District of Lee County, but especially his service to our children and his passion for public education. On behalf of my fellow board members and our district personnel, our thoughts are with his family at this time,” said Vice Chairman Cathleen O’Daniel Morgan (District 3).<\/p>\n

“Thomas Scott will be remembered for his dedication to the students in Lee County. \u00a0He was a champion of public education, and we honor his many contributions to the Lee County School Board. \u00a0Ann and I offer our support and prayers to his wife Kendra and his sons during this difficult time,” said Governor Rick Scott in a statement.”Mr. Scott genuinely believed that it was possible for people to reach their highest potential and he pushed us all, adults and children, in that direction,” added Superintendent Dr. Nancy Graham.<\/p>\n
The Lee County School District says a public visitation will be announced in the coming days. The memorial service will be private.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that individuals consider donating to a scholarship fund established in his memory with the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools.<\/p>\n

Checks should be payable to:\u00a0The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, and mailed to 2266 Second Street, Fort Myers, 33901.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The school district asks that donors include a note on the memo portion of the check that says it’s for the Tom Scott Memorial Scholarship.<\/p>\n
