Early this morning, the Fort Myers Police Department requested the assistance of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in the recovery of a stolen vehicle in Lehigh Acres.<\/p>\n
Deputies were dispatched to 866 Eisenhower Boulevard in Lehigh Acres to conduct an investigation into a confirmed stolen vehicle. During the investigation deputies attempted to arrest William Dernard Daniels Jr., (Date of Birth 06\/20\/1982). Daniels violently resisted arrest and attempted to run down a uniformed Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office Deputy with the stolen vehicle, at which time shots were fired.<\/p>\n
Daniels managed to escape in the stolen vehicle and after a short distance crashed the vehicle at the intersection of State Road 82 and Eisenhower Boulevard. A driver seeing Daniels leave the roadway, stopped to render aid at which time Daniels carjacked the Good Samaritan\u2019s vehicle. After a short pursuit, Daniels crashed the second vehicle and was taken into custody by the Fort Myers Police Department.<\/p>\n
No one was injured during any of the incidents. Daniels is well known in the law enforcement field as a \u201ccareer criminal\u201d with an extensive violent criminal history.<\/p>\n
The deputy has been placed on administrative leave as per departmental protocol. Due to the seriousness of these crimes, the Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office Major Crimes Unit will conduct the investigation.<\/p>\n

Lee County Sheriff Deputies are investigating a report of a shooting in Lehigh Acres Sunday morning. \u00a0A crime scene was set up in the 800 block of Eisenhower after neighbors say they heard shots fired about 8 a.m.<\/p>\n
One neighbor told us they heard some sort of dispute in the backyard of the duplex at 866 Eisenhower Boulevard and then a short time later, gunshots.<\/p>\n
He said after the firing stopped, he looked out the window and saw a golden colored SUV drive away from the scene. \u00a0The vehicle ended up off the road.<\/p>\n
It is not known who fired the shots or if anyone was hit. \u00a0Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.<\/p>\n
Another incident was reported in the 3700 block of Michigan Avenue in Fort Myers however there is no confirmation if the crime scene is related to the Lehigh Acres shots fired incident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
